Cuba Projects - Information:

We are learning about Cuba in school and the children will be doing projects on the topic. The projects will be displayed in our classroom during International Week. No other written H/W shall be given during this time.

The projects need to be completed by Tuesday the 9th June 2015 so that we can display them on International Day (Wednesday 10th June 2015).

I realise that this does not leave the children much time to complete their projects so I'm not expecting really lengthy work. Once I can see that the children have put a good effort into their work and learned about Cuba, I'll be happy with their project.

I've spoken to the children about the different kinds of project work that they might choose to undertake and the areas that they might focus on. They suggested a number of options and below are some of the possible options they might choose.

  1. Standard A4 scrapbook project. Children may choose to do a general overview of Cuba e.g. Cuban Culture and Traditions, Currency, Location, The People and Places, Socialism and Communism in Cuba, Housing, Modes of Transport (e.g. Cuban Cars, Public Transport, etc.), Exports (Cuban Cigars, Sugar Cane, etc.), The Cuban Missile Crisis, Relationship with America, Cuban Music and Dance, Language, Food, Wildlife, Schools and Education, Housing, Rainforest, Sport, etc.  NB. It can be a general overview of a number or all these areas, or your child may choose to focus on one or two key areas in more depth e.g. Cuban Classic Cars, The Cuban Missile Crisis, etc.
  2. Option 2: The children may choose to complete their project and display it using an A4 Ringbinder. Note: I have spare Ringbinders for all the children in the class, if they want one.
  3. Option 3: Large Poster Style Project displaying all the information that they have gathered. It cannot be pictures alone.
  4. Option 4: Large Poster style Time Line: Cuba's History, The Cuban Missile Crisis,  Cuban Cars, Cuba's Development Over the Years, etc.
  5. Some of the children also said that they would like to complete some Cuban artwork to go along with their project and display on the day. Another suggestion was a mini-display of Cuban Cars with information cards. Some of the others asked about creating an educational board game that would help visitors to the class, on International Day, learn more about Cuba.
  • All of the above options are acceptable. The children do not necessarily have to stick to these. They are only suggestions and ideas.
  • The children have an Information Folder about Cuba in their bag. This should give them a good start in learning about Cuba but it cannot be used as their final piece of project work.
  • The children also asked about completing their projects in pairs and I don't have a problem with that, however this means that the children will both get the same grade and will have to meet regularly afterschool to ensure their work fits together and that they're both happy with the final, completed project.
  • Projects should be well presented, interesting, show what has be learned, informative, good layout, etc.. Originality and creativity is also welcomed!
Any important Q's please email me: belmayneetkarl@gmail.com

Enjoy!

Ps. Any volunteers to help out on the International Day (Wednesday, 10th June) please email me. We need at least 4 adults to run our Cuban Room between 9am and 12.15pm. Anyone else who has any Cuban stuff that we could display on the day , or if they would be able to cook up some simple Cuban food or something like that, please let me know.
